Travel: Historic Center

Ever since I first started grade school, History quickly became my favorite class and something I still love to study to this day. Architecture on the other hand is something that I don’t know much about, except for a few basics here and there. Nevertheless, when you combine both architecture and history and drop me right in the middle of it, in any city in the world, I’m in heaven. I love old ornate buildings that make me wonder what they would say about everything they have witnessed thru hundreds of years if they were able to talk. I’m just fascinated by historic districts anywhere.
The first really old historic district I ever visited was Mexico City’s Historic Center. I was probably around 13 years old and though I did love it at the time, I wasn’t old enough to really appreciate it. Then, as I got older I got to visit Paris, London, Rome, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, and New York, and loved them all so much. However, it was after visiting all those places that I gained a new appreciation for Mexico City’s Historic Center and the whole city in all its beautiful glory. Its beauty is absolutely to par with any of the top cities in the world, and it makes me feel so proud.
Now, I fall in love with it deeper and deeper every time I visit. Today, I bring you some iphoneography from my last trip there. Hope you enjoy it!

Travel: Nostalgia

It’s been only 2 months since my last travel adventure and I’m already itching to get out there again. Especially when I look at photos of past travels and a big wave of nostalgia hits me like a brick. It’s not just nostalgia for a specific place or time, it’s nostalgia for the feelings I experience thru travel, no matter where I go. The excitement, the novelty, the discovery, the joy, the fulfillment…they can become addicting, and I’m more than ready for my next “fix”. Luckily, my next trip is quickly approaching, but until then I’ll have to settle for looking at old photos and reminiscing about good times.
And speaking of good times, I just realized I still hadn’t shared my photos of my trip to Puebla, Mexico with you guys, so we’re fixing that right now. It was such a good trip, not only because Puebla is one of those lovely cities with an old world feel and beauty, but because one of my best friends from high school, Mariana, lives there and I got to visit. It was almost a mini high school reunion since another of my best friends from high school, Artemisa, came along as well. We used to be a tight threesome back in the day, but we are even tighter now, despite time and distance. It feels so fantastic to have such a bond with people who have seen the best and worst of you and still decided to stick around. Thank God for technology bringing us virtually closer often, though I still miss them everyday…there goes the nostalgia again…

Look of the Day: Cliche

For all those people who think of Mexico in terms of that old cliche image of a guy with a big hat, a poncho and a donkey, you ought to visit many of Mexico’s modern cities, including the very cosmopolitan Mexico City, and realize this beautiful country is so much more than the old cliche. Now, that said, if you visit some of the smaller more traditional towns, you might occasionally find bits and pieces of that old cliche here and there. Case in point, the donkey. Though I didn’t run into any guys wearing big hats, canvas clothing and ponchos, I did run into a very lovely picture perfect donkey, and of course couldn’t miss the opportunity for a snapshot. Isn’t he the cutest donkey you’ve ever seen?

Anyway, donkey aside, Look of the Day is back!! This look was shot months ago in Mexico, and it is one I really love. I am a sucker for ladylike looks, so pretty much any outfit including this midi-length, fuller skirt dress is gonna be a favorite for me. Plus the black and white color palette give the whole thing a classic yet modern feel. Just the kind of outfit that can come to the rescue on those “don’t know what to wear” kind of days. It truly requires minimum effort.

Wishing you guys a great week!!
