Look of the Day: Overdressed? Never!

“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” Oscar Wilde

This quote by Oscar Wilde has recently become quite popular online. I’ve seen it tweeted, pinned, and posted on Facebook dozens of times by dozens of people, and not only do I agree with it, but it has also been my personal philosophy for a while.

Since I have always loved dressing up, figuring out what to wear to an event, whether it’s casual or dressy, is half the fun of it for me. However, I used to worry about trying to fit in with my outfit. I certainly didn’t want to be underdressed and looking like I didn’t belong there, but I also didn’t want to be overdressed and looking like I cared too much or put too much effort into it.

Then, a few years ago, I sort of had an ‘aha’ moment while reading another quote, this time by the arguable style icon, Rachel Zoe. In her book Style from A to Zoe, she wrote “In my mind, being overdressed is not a bad thing at all. What’s the worse-case scenario? That you’re the best-dressed person in the room?” For some reason, her words really hit a nerve for me, and I realized that if I love fashion and dressing up, I should just do it and enjoy it, rather than trying to please other people with my sartorial choices. And that’s exactly what I have done ever since, dress for myself and my enjoyment.

Now, all that said relates to today’s look of the day because with this outfit I was technically a tad “overdressed” last Saturday night when I attended a friend’s laid back Holiday party, but I didn’t mind; first, because of my aforementioned philosophy on the subject; second, because I loved my outfit and was glad to have an excuse to wear it; and third, because I was too busy having a lovely time with friends to have time to worry about such petty concerns.

So, what have you been wearing or plan to wear to the Holiday parties this season? Please share!

Look of the Day: Leather + Neon

I am once again on a bus, this time headed back home, and a little sad that a weekend is just not enough time to see and catch up with everyone I would’ve liked to. However, I will be back in my hometown to celebrate New Year’s Eve, and I’ll have a few more days then, so hopefully I can manage to meet up with all my friends & family.
Now, about today’s look, it was a very easy one to put together because it involves several of my favorite trends and classics: leather skirt + turtleneck+ b&w stripes + neon + statement necklace + mary janes with a twist. You pretty much can’t go wrong when involving any of these pieces in an outfit… and putting them all together into one, well, that’s just fabulous in my book.
As you know from previous posts (like this one and this one), I am obsessed with neon yellow, and this necklace is by far my favorite piece of neon I own. I just can’t get enough of it but hadn’t had the chance to show it off here on the blog. It was such a fantastic find, I got it on sale at Dillard’s for just around $12!!
Hoping you all had a wonderful weekend and wishing you an even better week ahead.

Gratitude Attitude

Happy Thanksgiving darlings!!
Whether you celebrate this lovely holiday (that I happen to love!) or not, I hope you take the time today and everyday to acknowledge anything and anyone in your life that you feel grateful for. I am big on living with a gratitude attitude always, I really believe it makes life better to go thru it appreciating and focusing on the good rather than dwelling on the less than pleasant.
So given the occasion, I want to share with you all the things that I’m grateful for. First and foremost, I am forever grateful for the people in my life, the love of my life, my friends and family; thank you all for your love, support, acceptance, for your patience, and for always being there. I am also grateful for the people that are no longer in my life, whatever the reason, I thank you all for the good moments, for the lessons, and I truly wish you happiness and love wherever you are. I’m grateful for all the wonderful people, the lovely families, that have given me the opportunity to work with them; thank you for opening your homes to me, for trusting and sharing with me that which you love most in the world… I feel truly blessed by those opportunities, experiences, and for the love and joy they have brought to me.
Then, I am grateful for my health, because even if it’s not perfect, it has served me well. It allows me to come and go, to live and enjoy. I am grateful that whenever my health has been in trouble, I have been able to get help and take care of it. Thank you God, thank you life for such huge blessing.
Next, I am grateful to be so lucky as to have more than my basic needs covered: food, shelter, education, clothing, transportation, and any others that I might not be mentioning, well, they have been covered above and beyond.
This year, I’m particularly grateful for this blog. It allows me to indulge in things that I’m passionate about, it allows me to share them, and hopefully, maybe, just maybe, it allows me to connect with people, with someone, through them. Of course, I am grateful for you my readers, still just a few, but oh so, so grateful that you take the time to click on this little project of mine. Thank you right now for reading this, thank you so much!
And basically, I am sincerely grateful for every single thing that has happened in my life, especially the worst, because they have opened me up and, no matter how bad, they have eventually made life better. It is through those experiences that I have grown and am able to appreciate how wonderful life can be after all.
I really love my life, and have no regrets, and I am extremely grateful for that feeling.
Now, moving on to today’s look, it is one that I would’ve worn to Thanksgiving dinner with my in-laws if I wasn’t instead in my sweatpants riding a bus down to my hometown to visit my family (not that I’m complaining! It’s just the inevitable bittersweetness of not being able to be in two places at the same time).
I hope whatever you are doing today, you are enjoying it, and I’m wishing you lots of things to be grateful for!
